Career Corner: Online Career Networking: How to Get Noticed, Be Remembered, and Singled Out for Your New Job

Interested in
doing some online career networking? This is a great idea. In addition to
in-person networking events, the web is the perfect place to meet professionals
who are searching for your brand of talent. If you’re nervous, don’t be. In the
next several Career Corner posts are
some tips to help you make the most of your online networking effort.

Tip #1:
Participate on a regular basis.

Many of my career
coaching

clients say that they benefit the most from the online networking groups where they put forth the biggest effort. Makes perfect sense! But I think
some of us get impatient and if we don’t get immediate results, we give up. Be
persistent and realize this may take a little time but it’s worth it. You never
know who you will meet or who’s eye you will catch online.

This means, log in
on a regular basis (once a week or more), take the time to craft thoughtful
responses, and ask lots of questions. Asking questions not only helps to
broaden your own knowledge, but it gives others the opportunity to share what
they know. Your curiosity and genuine interest in others will help you to be
remembered later.

Good luck trying
out this new useful career tool!
