Four Tips for More Productive Telecommuting (Part 2)

  • Be disciplined. It’s very easy to get distracted with things to do at home. You may feel that you can “finish work tomorrow,” but not treating your work time the same as you would do at the office can be detrimental to productivity. Set your schedule and stick to it.

  • Have a set workspace. If possible, set up a separate room just for your office so you can shut the door if needed and only see your workspace. Then you don’t get overly distracted by family or housework.

  • Check in with your boss. Many find it helpful to schedule regular phone or video meetings with their superiors so that there is still regular communication and each party knows what is expected of them.

  • Get to know your team. Make sure you have the email of everyone on your team and take the initiative to introduce yourself. It’s important to feel like you are part of the team, even if you are telecommuting.
