Career Corner: Interview Tips from Re:Focus on Careers – Face-to-face Interviews: Prepare for the Interview Part II

I recently spoke to a great
networking and career search group, Re:Focus on Careers, about creating a kick ass elevator speech. Here are some fab free interview tips from them in my next few Career Corner posts:

Prepare for the Interview

The best way to ace your next job interview is to prepare for it. This may sound obvious, but it’s not. Too many applicants walk into an interview without knowing as much as they should about the industry, the company and its problems. Remember: You are there to solve a problem. Otherwise, the company wouldn’t be hiring. Follow these steps:

2. Know yourself. Mentally review the skills and character traits you have that will help the company’s bottom line. Think in terms of the value you can add to the position and the company.

Extra Tip from Career Coach Hallie: Write down everything you’ve accomplished in your life, I mean everything. Then identify which accomplishments and skills you have that will specifically help them. Pretend you’re in their shoes. Ask yourself, why should I hire you? How are you going to help me? Write down your answer and practice what you want to say.
