As we’ve seen in the news lately, bullying at school and in college is getting more dangerous so to speak because of social media. This is why it’s important to teach our kids how to use social media carefully and effectively. It’s a powerful tool that I use with my clients in the career arena but as we’ve seen in recent news reports about bullying, it’s a powerful and sometimes dangerous tool when used in the wrong way personally.
For parents reading this – take the time to teach your kids about how to use social media and be careful with it. Help them understand that while it can be a useful and fun way to stay in touch with your friends, it is a tool that needs to be used with care just like anything else.
For recent college grads in their career search – be sure to educate yourself about how to use social media effectively and professionally in your job search. There are definite guidelines to follow and lines you don’t want to cross. Networking is the BEST tool you can use in your job search, more than 60% of jobs are found through networking. But you have to use it wisely for it to work for you and not against you.
