I came across this quote in an article in the July issue of Vogue. “I learned from her [her mother] that you never turn down a new opportunity and that you learn as much from your failure as your success. You’ve got one chance in life. This is it. It’s not a prelude.” Cecile Richards. In addition to inspiring me to do the things I’ve always said I wanted to do, it made me think about failures and setbacks and how I handle them. It reminded me to learn from my disappointments as opposed to allowing them to stop me in my tracks. We’re all going to have setbacks, it’s part of life. The value of these experiences comes from what we learn from them and how we learn to move forward past them. How do you handle setbacks or failure? Do you become immobilized or are you able to acknowledge what has occurred and then move on? Learn to become resilient by putting these events in their proper perspective: is the setback really THAT big of a deal? In terms of what you are trying to accomplish, will this one incident really matter a few months, or even a few weeks, from now? Think about how you can recover, re-group and move forward. Turn your setback into a challenge to stay motivated and an opportunity to learn and grow. You can do it, Hallie www.HallieCrawford.com
