“Dress for the job that you want, not the job that you have,” said Hallie Crawford, a certified career coach based in Atlanta who specializes in helping recent college graduates.

You’ll signal to your boss that you will fit into the workplace, Crawford said.

“You might think about Google and other casual workplaces and get the impression that that’s the norm everywhere,” she said. “But it’s not.”

If anything, you want to err on the side of being overdressed.
“Otherwise, you may not be taken seriously, especially when you’re young and trying to build credibility,” Crawford said.
